Hibiscus is prized throughout the Caribbean and north Africa for its ridiculously high vitamin content and uniquely tart-sweet flavor and deep purple color (caution: will stain cloth if spilled). With a strong flavor very similar to cranberry or red currant, hibiscus is an invigorating, bold tisane that is also absolutely fantastic as an iced tea (called agua di jamaica, kharkedy, or sorrel) – please see this recipe.
